Eavesdropping Techniques
The techniques and equipment utilized in electronic eavesdropping vary widely in sophistication and design. From the simplest “off the shelf” devices costing only a few dollars, to the most complex and expensive systems.
Radio frequency (RF) transmitters. Most commonly referred to as a “bug” or free space transmitter
Wired microphones. One of the hardest “bugs” to catch
Carrier current transmitters. RF energy over AC power lines, telephone lines or computer lines
Video systems, RF or hardwire
Light systems. Laser system pointed at your area to collect information. Include infrared systems.
Tape recorders, telephone tapping systems
Computer or data systems
Mechanical transfer of audio info. Inadequate soundproofing of walls, audio paths through pipes, etc.
